Mariculture:

Recent trends show that aquaculture has enormous economic potential and will play an increasingly important role in meeting global demand for fisheries products. The Open Ocean Aquaculture (OOA) Demonstration Project, initiated in 1998, came under the administrative umbrella of CINEMAR in 2001 and is the cornerstore of the mariculture program.

The Open Ocean Aquaculture Project is a partnership between academia, government and industry to advance the state of marine aquaculture in open ocean environments. Components of the project include systems engineering, biology and growout of cold water marine finfish and shellfish, environmental assessment of the potential impacts of offshore culture and technology transfer.
